When you talk to your kids on IM do you have a hard time?

not using short hand. I have an 8 year old that IMs me at work from time to time, and I think it is good for her to have a text converstation, it helps her reading so I try to take special care to spell properly and use proper grammar. For some reason words like 'cause' just look normal in IM lol. Im afraid Im teaching her bad habits...
