Guy won't make the first move?

I've been hanging out with this guy a lot and we've verbally expressed having feelings for eachother, but he's really shy and not too touchy. I want to start moving into the mushy hand holding and first kiss business, but he acts like I'm radioactive whenever we're together, and is very careful not to get close. I'm just as shy as he is, so I'm not sure what to do. How do I get this to move along more quickly without being blunt to him about it?
