Meter in Poetry?

I need to write a sonnet, but I can't hear meter, which makes it kinda hard when I'm supposed to use iambic pentameter. I understand how it works, unstressed, stressed, unstressed, and so on, but I just can't hear the da dum da dum that it's supposed to make. How can I teach myself to hear it?
